The purpose of this page is to capture the most current, relevant way to host Mystic BBS on a linux server.

The recommendations herein are based on the experience of the author of this wiki page, and all distributions and init systems have not been taken into account. For the purposes of this guide, all work has been done in Debian Jessie 32bit. Instructions for other bitrates or non-x86 (i.e., RPi) installations will differ in some ways. YMMV.

A bit of advice: You're welcome to run Mystic BBS on a 64 bit server, but doorgame compatibility will suffer.

This guide will go from initial server setup, through hardening of the server, installing Mystic, configuring doors, and some other random pieces of advice to enable a seemless telnet BBS experience.
