  • January 6 - Hayes Microcomputer shuts down operations. Founded in 1978, the company was the first to manufacture personal computer modems. Assets of the company are sold to Zoom Telephonics on April 7, 1999.

  • July 1 - HydraBBS Software v1.02 is released.
  • July 4 - HydraBBS Software v1.03 is released.
  • July 10 - HydraBBS Software v1.04 is released.
  • July 15 - HydraBBS Software v1.05 is released.
  • July 23 - XenoTerra BBS Software v1.00 (Windows) is released.
  • July 29 - HydraBBS Software v1.06 is released.
